All Roads Lead to Heaven? Kathleen Parker Does Theology

Earlier this week, Kathleen Parker used her column in The Washington Post to take on Franklin Graham and his belief that belief in Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.  Parker argued that “Graham’s views didn’t sit very well with secular Americans or even non-evangelical Christians.”  On today’s program, Dr. Mohler addresses this important…

Who Will Be Tested Next? — The Dilemma of Franklin Graham

Marking the National Day of Prayer, Evangelist Franklin Graham led in prayer outside of the Pentagon today.  Mr. Graham was disinvited from praying inside of the Pentagon because he held to the exclusivity of the gospel over and against Islam in an interview after September 11, 2001.  His comments were rendered “inappropriate” by a Pentagon…

How Should We Speak of Islam?

The United States Army recently rescinded its invitation to Franklin Graham to pray at a prayer service because of comments he made about Islam.  Following 9/11, Mr. Graham said he wants Muslims to know that Jesus Christ died for their sins.  This controversy brings to light how far America has come in its thinking about…

How Green Should We Be?

The first Earth Day was celebrated 40 years ago.  Yet, Christians should never need a national day to be reminded of the Scripture’s teaching that the Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it (Psalm 24:1).  In an age in which many have made the environment itself an object of worship, Christians are those who…

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
