Motherhood vs. The Woman?

Elisabeth Badinter recently published a new book that has swept across France: Le conflit la femme et la mere. Translated as “Conflict: The Woman and The Mother,” the book makes the argument that the greatest impediment to the advance of feminism is the baby.  Simply put, women cannot reach their potential as women because their…

Giving Men Power Over Women: Encouraging Abortions

Does legalized abortion really give women freedom over their bodies? Evidence would suggest the opposite. When women are given the freedom to “choose” whether or not they want to keep their babies, evidence clearly shows that men are given power over women. Dr. Mohler discusses this tragic and important issue with Dr. Richard Stith, Professor…

Limiting Our Carbon Footprint: No More Babies

What do birth rates and greenhouse gasses have in common? Nothing. Unless you’re debating whether or not to have children because you’re concerned about the reach of your green footprint. Researchers at Oregon State University are encouraging couples to take this line of thinking. They have recently published a study arguing that the world’s carbon…

The Brave New World of Designer Babies

In a recent article for The Wall Street Journal Gautam Naik notes the growth of fertility treatments not as preventative medicine, but also of the ability to select babies with specific traits. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler explores the moral complications of embryo selection and welcomes to the program guest Marcy Darnovsky, from the Center…

Encouraging the Blessing of Children

Do Christians view children and families as a blessing from the Lord? Or have we, like the culture around us, bought into the idea that children are just another ‘lifestyle option’ for married couples? On today’s program, guest host Russell Moore welcomes Steve Watters to the program. Steve and Candice Watters are the authors of…

Connecting Faith and Fertility

Why would it be that conservative believers tend to have more children? Does faith correlate with fertility? As Anthony Gottlieb notes in the most recent issue of Intelligent Life, data seems to draw a clear connection between the two. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler looks at the issue and proposes some explanations.

Young Americans Delaying Marriage: At What Cost?

Americans in their twenties are marrying at lower rates than ever and those that are marrying are doing so later in life. Do these trends have any lasting social impact? Does the Christian worldview conflict with these trends? On today’s program, Dr. Mohler looks at the data and offers some thoughts for careful Christian reflection…

The ‘Imposition’ of Children: Marriage On Our Own Terms

In a recent article in Azure, Noah Pollak argues that Europeans aren’t having large families for a variety of changing cultural values and evolving worldviews. But he also notes that many parents simply don’t want the inconvenient imposition of children. Pollak joins Dr. Mohler on today’s program for a conversation on the relationship between marriage…

If Not Same-Sex Marriage, Why?

At last week’s forum for Democratic presidential candidates, former Senator John Edwards apologized for having previously opposed same-sex marriage on religious grounds. However, when asked to explain what other reason he had for his continued opposition, he could not come up with an answer. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler considers whether Christians have any other…

“Abortion is as American as Apple Pie” — The Culture of Death Finds a Voice

Abortion is now one of America’s most common surgical procedures performed on adults. As many as one out of three women will have at least one abortion. In some American neighborhoods, the number of abortions far exceeds the number of live births.

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
