A Christian Understanding of Animals

The treatment of animals is increasingly becoming an important question for Christians to address.  On today’s program, Dr. Mohler addresses this important question by exhorting Christians from the Scriptures.  While man alone is made in God’s image, he bears the responsibility to take dominion and exercise proper care of the animal kingdom.

Woof ‘n Worship? Seriously?

The bible has a great deal to say about animals and their place in God’s creation.  While they very clearly display the glory of God and bring joy to his creation, should animals be treated with the same importance as humans?  According to Gillian Flaccus of the Associated Press, many churches are answering yes to…

The Latest in the Brave New World of Bioethics

It seems like the typical week now brings an unprecedented surge of troubling new developments in the world of bioethics. From movements to dismantle human exceptionalism, granting rights to apes and even ‘nature’, to the spread of the so-called “right to die” crusade, Christians are in need of reliable information on all of these fronts….

The Delusion of Determinism

The subversion of moral responsibility is one of the most significant developments of recent decades. Though this subversion was originally philosophical, more recent efforts have been based in biology and psychology. Various theorists have argued that our decisions and actions are determined by genetics, environmental factors, or other forces. Now, Scientific American is out with…

Life in the Local Church

What Our Pets Say About Us: The Big Business Of The American Pet Industry

A pair of recent stories in major magazines remind us that the pet industry in America is big business. And for Christians, there are a host of other considerations at stake in any discussion of the significance of our animal companions. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler examines the often extravagant, child-substituting, and always profitable pet…

A Theology Of The Dangerous

Why is it that we are fascinated by animals that could and would kill us? For centuries, dangerous animals have been the subject of man’s interest. Does our interest in dangerous animals have any theological implications? This phenomenon is the subject of a recent article by Dr. Russell Moore in Touchstone magazine. On today’s program,…

Is It Time To Lose The Language of Lordship?

Writing for The Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, Stephanie Innes has noticed a startling trend in area churches: they are dropping the use of any reference to ‘Lord’ in their liturgy.

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
