American Episcopalians have again shown their theological liberalism by electing their second openly homosexual candidate for the office of assistant bishop of Los Angeles. Mary Glasspool, currently serving as a priest in Annapolis, MD will become the second openly homosexual bishop serving in the Episcopal Church USA. The Archbishop of the Anglican Communion, Rowan Williams, has said that this raises “serious questions” about the Anglican Communion as a whole. The trouble with the Archbishop’s opinion is that it lacks any theological conviction. Rowan Williams, and many others in both the Church and politics, fail to be clear on matters of truth: when scripture calls something wrong, we must be faithful to orient our convictions around scripture’s teaching. As Dr. Mohler notes on today’s show, Christians must be very careful to avoid massaging theological truth by denominational process and theological etiquette.
