Bankruptcy in the Cathedral

It turns out that Robert Schuller offers the best analysis of this crisis with his own words. “No church has a money problem; churches only have idea problems.” The theological crisis in Garden Grove is far more significant than the financial crisis.

Radio Days: Lessons Learned Behind the Microphone

Last Friday marked the final live broadcast of The Albert Mohler Program. Delivering that program was one of the great privileges of my life, and one for which I will always be thankful. Day by day, coast to coast, individuals and families welcomed me into their lives and joined in what we sincerely hoped was “Intelligent Christian Conversation About the Issues That Matter.” For years, I eagerly awaited the experience of sitting behind that microphone and talking to America and friends around the world.

Preachers Who Don’t Believe — The Scandal of Apostate Pastors

Are there clergy who don’t believe in God? That is the question posed by a new report that is certain to receive considerable attention — and rightly so. Few church members are likely to be disinterested in whether their pastor believes in God.

Unbelieving Pastors?

What should pastors do when they no longer hold the defining beliefs of their denominations?  That’s the question posed this week in the Washington Post’s “On Faith” discussion.  Unfortunately, it’s a question that reflects a common reality these days.  On today’s show, Dr. Mohler argues that the answer to this question is simple: leave.  While…

No Little People, No Little Sermons – John 9

2010 Shepherds Conference

An Interview with Dr. John MacArthur

Having recently celebrated 40 years of ministry, Dr. John MacArthur has been a faithful expositor of God’s Word and shepherd of God’s people.   His ministry has benefitted many across the globe.  On today’s show, Dr. Mohler has the privilege of sitting down with Dr. MacArthur for a conversation and to take listeners’ calls.

Falling on Deaf Ears? — Why So Many Churches Hear So Little of the Bible

“It is well and good for the preacher to base his sermon on the Bible, but he better get to something relevant pretty quickly, or we start mentally to check out.” That stunningly clear sentence reflects one of the most amazing, tragic, and lamentable characteristics of contemporary Christianity — an impatience with the Word of God.

Are Preachers Too Silent about Sex?

A recent study released by the Religious Institute, a liberal organization that advocates “progressive” understandings of human sexuality, urges preachers to preach more about sex from the pulpit.  Yet, this organization is urging an inclusive message about sexuality that is not in accord with the Scriptures.  On today’s show, Dr. Mohler urged Christian preachers to…

Are Preachers Too Silent About Sex?

More sex in the pulpit? That’s the call from the Religious Institute — a liberal organization that advocates “progressive” understandings of human sexuality. The group has issued a new report, “Spirituality and Religion 2020″ that spells out goals for the next decade.

Air Conditioning Hell: How Liberalism Happens

Theological liberals do not intend to destroy Christianity, but to save it. As a matter of fact, theological liberalism is motivated by what might be described as an apologetic motivation. The pattern of theological liberalism is all too clear. Theological liberals are absolutely certain that Christianity must be saved…from itself.

“Abortion is as American as Apple Pie” — The Culture of Death Finds a Voice

Abortion is now one of America’s most common surgical procedures performed on adults. As many as one out of three women will have at least one abortion. In some American neighborhoods, the number of abortions far exceeds the number of live births.

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
