IVF, Then Abortion? What Does This Say?

A recent editorial in The Times of London reveals that an increasing number of women are seeking abortions after they become pregnant through in vitro fertilization (IVF).  The fact that many women are having abortions after undergoing such extensive treatment is further evidence of the tragic state of human beings.  On today’s program, Dr. Mohler…

Is Ever After Now Too Long?

The recent announcement of Al and Tipper Gore’s separation brought to light the culture’s confusion about marriage.  Several opinion columns have been written that not only argue away the necessity of staying together long term but also celebrate those couples that decide to go their separate ways in their later years.  On today’s program, Dr….

Summer Reading: Books Fit For the Season

The arrival of summer brings family vacations, time at the pool, and a chance to read books!  This is a good opportunity to enjoy biographies, think critically, and exercise worldview analysis while reading.  Earlier this week, Dr. Mohler released his recommended reading list for the summer of 2010 challenging readers to take advantage of this…

Our Children and Money

A recent New York Times article reveals that parents are concerned their children are not ready to launch out of the home and into the real world.  As children approach the day when they are no longer financially supported by their parents, they are increasingly less ready to financially support themselves.  On today’s program, Dr….

Ministering To Our Military: How The Church Can Serve Those Who Defend Us

All too often churches are unsure of how to serve and minister to military families in their midst. Many of us simply don’t understand what it is like to have a spouse or parent deployed. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler welcomes retired Lt. Gen. Pat Caruana into the studio for a helpful conversation about how…

Are Parents Surrendering Control?

An 8-year-old yells at his father trying to make him put his coat on, calling him a “control-freak.”  The New York Times cover story from May 23, 2010, “Every Hug, Every Fuss” documents this conversation recorded by researchers from the UCLA, who have been following 32 families for 3 years, videotaping every move.  The dual-earner,…

Why Do People Do Stupid Things?

While the question may seem a bit odd, the daily newspaper provides indisputable evidence that people do stupid things.  From lying about their past military service to adulterous affairs, human beings do stupid things because human beings are sinners.  On today’s program, Dr. Mohler not only argues that people make irrational decisions because of sin…

Has Man Created Life?

Just days ago, Dr. Craig Venter and his associates announced the achievement of the first synthetic life form, a bacterium with DNA sequenced entirely by computer — a human-designed life form.  The international media have seized upon the news, published officially in the journal Science.  On today’s program, Dr. Mohler discusses this issue with Dr….

Pornography — The Difference Being a Parent Makes

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, recently sent an email asserting his company’s right to refuse to sell pornography.  Answering the objection that he was “imposing his morality about porn,” Mr. Jobs informed a disgruntled customer that he might think differently about pornography if he were a parent.  On today’s program, Dr. Mohler discusses how being…

Nature-Deficit Disorder–Have Children Forgotten How to Play Outdoors?

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
