Dr. Panos Zavos is in the headlines again–this time claiming to have successfully implanted a cloned human embryo into a woman’s womb. Once again, Zavos has made this claim without providing even a shred of evidence, but at least some respectable scientists believe his claim may be credible.

Former General Wesley Clark is joining the metrosexual revolution, posing for the cover of the nation’s most influential homosexual magazine wearing a white tee-shirt and a black jacket. The February 3, 2004 edition of The Advocate features a major interview with Clark, considered a top-tier candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. The cover quotes Clark staking his claim for the homosexual vote: “I’m the one person who can bring gay issues forward. And I will.”

The annual State of the Union address has become a fixture of American political life–an exercise in public democracy. President George W. Bush delivered his third State of the Union address last night, signaling a transition in his presidency and answering many of the criticisms leveled at him by the field of Democratic presidential candidates.

“We in Iowa are marking the beginning of the end of the Bush presidency. That’s what this is about.” Thus declared John Kerry as he celebrated his come-from-behind victory in Monday’s Iowa caucuses. Time will tell if John Kerry is any real threat to the Bush presidency, but his decisive win did put an end to the presidential hopes of Rep. Dick Gephardt and threw into question the viability of former Vermont governor Howard Dean as a national candidate.

Kate Michelman is going out with a bang. President of “NARAL Pro-Choice America” for almost twenty years, Michelman addressed the National Press Club this week and delivered an address that shows she has learned nothing about the sanctity of human life during her tenure at the nation’s leading pro-abortion organization.

The question of homosexual marriage presents the American people with an inescapable moral challenge. The words homosexual and marriage are inherently contradictory. The very fact that these terms are in public conflict demonstrates the radical character of the social revolutionaries that now demand the legalization of homosexual marriage.

Sometime ago, comedian Jay Leno made the following announcement to his audience: “A group of venture capitalists are in the process of developing their own liberal radio network to counter conservative shows like Rush Limbaugh. They feel the liberal viewpoint is not being heard–except on TV, in the movies, in music, by comedians, in magazines and newspapers. Other than that, it’s not getting out!” With his typical good timing, Leno delivered the joke masterfully and the audience responded with laughter. Of course, the laugh was at the expense of those who claim that the media shows no liberal bias.

When Wesley Clark, a retired Army four-star general, announced his run for the Democratic presidential nomination, the Washington Post was moved to comment that Clark is “a work in progress.” That much remains clear after several months on the campaign trail. On issues ranging from war in Iraq to abortion to economic policy, Clark still appears like a man looking for a platform even as he runs for the nation’s highest office.

Just days after repackaging his personality to identify as a Christian candidate, Howard Dean has offered a tortured theological argument that is likely to impress no one–especially those who take Christianity seriously. This most secular of candidates–at least until the last two weeks–has now decided that his faith influenced his decision as Vermont’s governor to sign the nation’s first “civil union” legislation. As he told the Washington Post, “My view of Christianity … is that the hallmark of being a Christian is to reach out to people who have been left behind. So I think there was a religious aspect to my decision to support civil unions.”

Nicholas Kristof just can’t help himself. An op-ed columnist for The New York Times, Kristof is writing about Christianity once again. As before, his article reveals far more about himself than his subject.

America’s slide into a truly pornographic culture is now almost complete. California-based CKE Restaurants, Inc. has launched a series of advertisements for its Carl’s Jr. restaurants that features Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy Enterprises–and he’s not just selling hamburgers. The advertisements are further evidence of the nation’s descent into moral degeneracy.
