The Seducation of Pornography — The Los Angeles Times Reports

Monday's edition of The Los Angeles Times included another important report on the spread of internet pornography. Reporter Marianne Szegedy-Maszak cites industry sources and points to 200 new pornography sites on the Internet each day.

In her article, Marianne Szegedy-Maszak gives primary attention to those who have become ensnared in the pornographic jungle. From her report:

The Internet, more than any other type of mass medium, seems to be creating a new group of people engaged in compulsive sexual behavior, say psychologists and clinicians. The accessibility, anonymity and affordability -- what one researcher calls the "triple A engine" -- are reeling in people who would otherwise have never engaged in such behavior.

Tellingly, the article also seems to suggest that Internet pornography isn't dangerous or problematic for those who are not "compulsive" users. In itself, that says a great deal about the problem of pornography in our society.
