Is America Really Pro-Choice?

New York magazine has recently published an article on abortion in America which may be the most important article to emerge on the topic in a very long time.  Writing for the magazine, Jennifer Senior argues that the recent passage of the Stupak Amendment, by Democrats, proves that the climate for abortion in America is…

NewsNote: An Amazing Article on Abortion in New York Magazine

Week by week, New York magazine offers insight into the culture and consciousness of the nation’s trendy population in Manhattan. This magazine, combined with The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, and The New Yorker, provides constant insight into the thinking of the New York elites.

The Kindle Experience — A Personal Report

Books are a major part of my daily life. As I write this, I am surrounded by many thousands of books, each with its own feel, appearance, and meaning. Many of these books have played crucial roles in my thinking and understanding. Even as Christianity requires a certain level of literacy for its transmission and understanding, the book (whether scroll or codex) is rightly cherished by Christ’s people.

The Real Anglican Tragedy

American Episcopalians have again shown their theological liberalism by electing their second openly homosexual candidate for the office of assistant bishop of Los Angeles.  Mary Glasspool, currently serving as a priest in Annapolis, MD will become the second openly homosexual bishop serving in the Episcopal Church USA.  The Archbishop of the Anglican Communion, Rowan Williams,…

NewsNote: When “Gracious Restraint” Fails — The Real Anglican Tragedy

The election of a second openly-homosexual bishop in the Episcopal Church hardly came as a surprise. Given the actions of the church in its General Convention this past summer, the question was clearly not if there would be more openly-gay bishops, but when. The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles answered that question on Saturday, electing the Reverend Mary D. Glasspool of Baltimore as an assistant bishop. She is expected to be consecrated as bishop on May 15 in Los Angeles.

Is Living Together Really a Big Deal?

Is living together really such a big deal?  In a post-modern culture, where people don’t really believe in the institution of marriage, is there any reason for couples to wait for the benefits of living together?  As Dr. Mohler notes on today’s program, the Church must be careful to address the depth of people’s sin. …

What Do You Really Believe About Human Dignity, Dr. Collins?

The defense of human dignity is the responsibility of all human beings, but certain individuals bear a special responsibility due to position or influence. This is certainly the case with Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health.

A Christian Response to Unemployment

One of the first things you find out about a person when you meet them is what they do.  Our identity as people is so closely tied to the job that employs us.  To lose that job can sometimes leave one feeling empty and lost.  For the first time in American history, there may be…

Age & Moral Responsibility

Does age matter when dealing with moral accountability?  Governments are often faced with deciding how society should punish both the young and the old for wrongs they have committed.  The conversation becomes very difficult when dealing with the case of young children.  Should young delinquents be penalized in the same way adults are for the…

“Abortion is as American as Apple Pie” — The Culture of Death Finds a Voice

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
