It Promises Far Too Little — The False Gospel of Prosperity Theology

“God knows where the money is, and he knows how to get the money to you.” That was the message of Gloria Copeland as she was speaking at the Southwest Believers’ Convention recently held in Fort Worth, Texas. The event drew the attention of The New York Times and reporter Laurie Goodstein contributed a compelling report about the meeting and its message.

Giving Men Power Over Women: Encouraging Abortions

Does legalized abortion really give women freedom over their bodies? Evidence would suggest the opposite. When women are given the freedom to “choose” whether or not they want to keep their babies, evidence clearly shows that men are given power over women. Dr. Mohler discusses this tragic and important issue with Dr. Richard Stith, Professor…

The Hidden Reality of Abortion — Empowering Men

America’s long war over abortion has classically been defined as a struggle between competing rights — depicted as the right of a woman to have an abortion versus the right of an unborn child to the protection of life. This long-familiar framing of the issue suggests, at the very least, that the rights of women and their unborn children are, or at least can be, presented as an irresolvable conflict.

The Changing of Minds on Contraception

Contraception is a very important and sensitive issue that leads many evangelical couples to very different conclusions. As couples marry, they find that they have to deal with this issue, and come to God honoring convictions on what the scriptures say about birth control. Dr. Mohler discusses this important topic with callers who have thought…

Limiting Our Carbon Footprint: No More Babies

What do birth rates and greenhouse gasses have in common? Nothing. Unless you’re debating whether or not to have children because you’re concerned about the reach of your green footprint. Researchers at Oregon State University are encouraging couples to take this line of thinking. They have recently published a study arguing that the world’s carbon…

Is Cap and Trade for Babies Next?

Just when you thought you’d seen everything, a pair of scientists at Oregon State University has published a study arguing that any effort to limit carbon emissions must consider the impact of “reproductive choices” on the ecological equation.

The Grace of Grief in the Christian Life

The Christian life is the promise of God’s faithful provision for his children. It is not, however, the promise of a life without grief. On the contrary, the scriptures promise that the Christian life will be marked by trials and tribulations on this side of eternity. Our hearts as Christians should expect grief as the…

Polyamory: One Relationship? Two? How Many Faithful Relationships for You?

The idle of choice in relationships is destroying faithfulness between couples. Polyamory is the practice of sexual relationships between many couples who are faithful only to a group of people who are agreed upon within the group. This concept of ‘faithfulness’ has nothing faithful in it, and gives people freedom to be ‘faithful’ to whatever…

Polyamory — The Perfectly Plural Postmodern Condition

Once a sexual revolution is set loose, it inevitably runs its course through the culture.  While the current flashpoints of cultural conflict are focused on same-sex marriage and gender issues, others are biding their time.  As Newsweek magazine makes clear, some new flashpoints are getting restless.

“Abortion is as American as Apple Pie” — The Culture of Death Finds a Voice

Abortion is now one of America’s most common surgical procedures performed on adults. As many as one out of three women will have at least one abortion. In some American neighborhoods, the number of abortions far exceeds the number of live births.

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
