When Abortion Collides with Totalitarianism

The vast nation of China remains under the control of one of the few surviving Communist regimes on the planet.  Over the last two decades, that regime has redefined Communist economic theory, allowing private capital and a consumer market to emerge alongside state control and ownership.  Nevertheless, the totalitarian nature of the regime reaches even into the most intimate dimensions of life.  The most insidious example of this totalitarian impulse is China’s infamous “one child only” policy.

Fighting Words about the Bible?

Addressing the Eclipse of Biblical Manhood

If you could give young men one word of encouragement, admonition, or exhortation, what would it be? On today’s program, Dr. Mohler asks this question and offers his own insight on the key marks of manhood.

The Kingdom of Our God and of His Christ

2009 marks the fifth anniversary of the publication of The Kingdom of Christ: The New Evangelical Perspective [Crossway] by Russell D. Moore.  Okay, so a fifth anniversary is not such a big deal, but I was grasping for an excuse to put this book where it belongs — on your reading list.  I recently had the opportunity to reread this book, and I was reminded how helpful it really is.  Russell D. Moore, Senior Vice President and Dean of the School of Theology (where, you ask?) at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, clarifies so many of the issues swirling about evangelicals as we discuss the Kingdom of God, eschatology, and Christian political engagement.  He offers a really helpful survey of these issues, and an even more helpful theological and biblical framework for understanding the Kingdom of Christ.

Fighting Words about the Bible?

The Monday “On Religion” feature in USA Today is consistently interesting, even if often exasperating.  That is what should be expected of an opinion column — strong opinions in both the column and the reaction it prompts.  Well, get ready to form your own opinion about today’s feature, for it is likely to make a lot of waves.

The Resurrection of Christ and the Reality of the Gospel

The pattern of the Christian year is an exercise of the Church’s discipline. The annual celebrations of Christmas and Resurrection Day force the Church to ponder again the truths of Christ’s incarnation and resurrection.

TIME — Is Same-Sex Marriage Inevitable?

The past two weeks have brought new cogency to a question many have been asking for some time — Is the legalization of same-sex marriage now inevitable?

The Conflict Between Same-Sex Marriage and Religious Liberty

With a wave of legal developments in the past two weeks, the move for legalized same-sex marriage has made dramatic advances. But what does all of this mean for religious liberty? Could churches and religious institutions be liable for not hiring practicing homosexuals? On today’s program, Dr. Mohler welcomes Eric Rassbach of the Becket Fund…

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
