Has The ‘Twilight’ Phenomenon Reached Your Home?

Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster Twilight series has become a publishing phenomenon and, now, a blockbuster at the box office and DVD release. However, given their subject–adolescent vampire romance–many families are asking whether or not these books should be accepted reading material for their own daughters. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler examines the books and offers his…

Does Your Pastor Believe in God?

A news report from the Netherlands points to a form of theological insanity that is spreading far beyond the Dutch.  Ecumenical News International reports that church authorities in the Netherlands have decided not to take action against a Dutch pastor who openly declares himself to be an atheist.

Are We At ‘The End Of Excess’?

Writing in this week’s edition of TIME, Kurt Andersen argues that the economic downturn may actually prove to be good for American culture, marking the end of a period of unsustainable excess in the way Americans handle their money. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler examines the Andersen’s argument and raises questions about its implications not…

Rethinking Retirement

The economic downturn has forced many Americans to delay retirement, if not abandon the concept entirely. But where does retirement fit in a Christian worldview? On today’s program, Dr. Mohler discusses these issues and traces the history of the concept of retirement in modern life.

The Eclipse of Christian Memory

Even as Californians await the decision of their state Supreme Court on the same-sex marriage issue, momentum toward the legalization of gay marriage has now shifted to New England, where several states are poised to approve some version of homosexual marriage in coming weeks.

The Real Population Threat

For well over a century, many prophets of doom have predicted world overpopulation would lead to ecological disaster, famine, poverty and other woes. As Philip Longman points out in the March 24, 2009 edition of USA Today, the world’s population is expected to hit 7 billion by 2012, up from the 6 billion mark set…

The Brand New Incredibly Old and Enduringly Faithful Concept of Church Planting

Give Fred Barnes credit.  He knows a good idea when he sees one.  Writing for the “Houses of Worship” column of The Wall Street Journal, Barnes tells the story of how he and his wife came to leave The Falls Church near Washington, DC and then to join another congregation.

The Real Population Threat

For well over a century, many prophets of doom have predicted world overpopulation would lead to ecological disaster, famine, poverty and other woes.  As Philip Longman points out in the March 24, 2009 edition of USA Today, the world’s population is expected to hit 7 billion by 2012, up from the 6 billion mark set in 1999.  So, is overpopulation a real threat?

Transhumanism Trips on a Ponzi Scheme?

Transhumanism Trips on a Ponzi Scheme?

If this article had appeared in a newspaper less illustrious and authoritative than The Wall Street Journal, I would have assumed it to be a hoax.  Evidently not.  It seems that a couple of intrepid transhumanist artists have lost their funding, thanks to the fact that their investments had been managed by Bernard Madoff, the investor who just admitted to running what may well be the largest Ponzi scheme in history.

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
