Sex and the Seminary?

The release of a report entitled “Sex and the Seminary” is certain to attract attention — which is no doubt why the report was produced in the first place.  In this case, the report is an attempt to push the sexual revolution through institutions designed for the training of ministers.  As “Sex and the Seminary” makes clear, many liberal institutions joined the sexual revolution long ago.

A Chilling Account and a Word of Warning

Most Americans would probably be surprised to know that Sen. Edward Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, and former Vice President Al Gore all were once solidly anti-abortion. That seems almost incomprehensible now, but, as Dr. Mohler and guest Anne Hendershott note on today’s program, the record is clear — and the pattern is chilling.

Homeschooling Goes Mainstream

A Chilling Account and a Word of Warning

Most Americans would probably be surprised to know that Sen. Edward Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, and former Vice President Al Gore all were once solidly anti-abortion.  That seems almost incomprehensible now, but the record is clear — and the pattern is chilling.

The Meaning of Life and the Christian Worldview

Recent polling suggests that young adults increasingly interpret human life as essentially meaningless. As Dr. Mohler notes on today’s program, the Christian worldview proposes a very real and honest understanding of what provides meaning in life and what doesn’t.

Atheists Play Their Hand — Probability

The news first broke last year, when atheists in Great Britain announced the intention to put their message on London’s famous city buses.  Atheist celebrities including Richard Dawkins and A. C. Grayling joined the campaign and enjoyed the publicity.  Now, the atheists are taking their advertising campaign throughout Britain, with 800 buses carrying their message.

Does True Love Really Wait?

The media has been abuzz about new research suggesting that abstinence pledges have little impact on the actual behavior of teenagers. However, a number of commentators have recently pointed out that much of the reporting missed one critical point: teenagers from conservative religious families clearly do delay sexual activity. On today’s program, Dr. Mohler discusses…

Revisiting Christ and Culture

Here is a simple rule to keep in mind:  When D. A. Carson writes a book, buy it.  This is certainly the case with Carson’s recent book, Christ & Culture Revisited [Eerdmans].  Readers will immediately recognize the reference to the classic 1951 work by H. Richard Niebuhr, Christ and Culture.  Those who desire a deeper understanding of this difficult question will welcome Carson’s very thoughtful look at the claims of Christ and culture.

The Suburbs — Hollywood Image and Mission Reality

America is a nation transformed by demographics.  Flash back just over a century and a majority of Americans live on farms and in rural settings.  Today, a clear majority of Americans live in metropolitan settings.  Cities are now surrounded by vast rings of settlements and clusters known as suburbs — and Hollywood doesn’t like it.

Learning from Christopher Hitchens: Lessons Evangelicals Must Not Miss

The death of Christopher Hitchens on December 15 was not unexpected, and that seemed only to add to the tragedy.  His fight against cancer had been lived, like almost every other aspect of his colorful life, in full public view. He had told numerous interviewers that he wanted to die in an active, not a passive sense. Then again, there may never have been a truly passive moment in Christopher Hitchens’ life.

President Obama and Same-Sex Marriage — The Dance Continues

Some predictions are rather safe to make. 2012 is almost certain to be a determinative year on the issue of same-sex marriage. Multiple courts appear poised to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] and, even more urgently, the appeal on California’s Proposition 8 at the Ninth Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals will set up a certain appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court. Given the facts of this case and the significance of the nation’s most populous state, the Supreme Court is almost certain to take the case. This sets the stage for the courts to make some determinative statement on same-sex marriage within the next several months — a decision that will go a long way toward setting the direction of the larger culture.
