I predicted on my radio show today that the election of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI will lead to a quick negative turn in the media. It’s already happening. After days of uncritical coverage–something of a free infomercial for the Roman Catholic Church–the media will turn on the new pope as a radical conservative, and will sympathize with liberal Catholic forces who now face their worst papal nightmare.
